Tempe police released a description of two men sought in the shooting death of an Arizona State University student last week.

Zachary Marco, 21, was killed for an old laptop computer and a cell phone in the 1100 block of E. University Drive about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 17 near campus.

The shooter is described as a black male in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall, with a thin build and a short haircut, wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts and a red bandana.

A second man believed to have been involved is described as black, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a dark T-shirt.

Both suspects may have fled the scene in a newer model, dark colored, four-door small sedan.

Police and Marco’s family believe Marco was walking home from the ASU library to his home when someone tried to rob him and shot him once in the chest. Witnesses said they saw two men running from the scene. Marco later died at a nearby hospital.

A Visitation for Marco will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bunker’s Family Funeral Home, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Family and friends can arrive at 5 p.m.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church, 933 N. Lindsay Road, Mesa.

Marco, a junior honors student majoring in political science, had served as a page in the state Legislature last session and was progressing through an extensive interview process for an internship with the U.S. Senate.

Marco was a 2008 graduate of Mesa’s Red Mountain High School where he played football, wrestled and ran cross country and track.

Anyone with information can contact Tempe police at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377.
