I feel for this family very much and hope that they eventually will be OK. The only question I have is one that cannot be answered: why in god's name was she out at 2am in an area that has been having problems with crime?. Please, please don't give me the garbage that she can do what she wants and we shouldn't live in fear or give in to the criminal element, blah, blah, blah.
All those are perfectly good responses. However, sad to say, we live in a nasty and violent world where all of us must be aware of the things that dirtbags do to the innocent. I work on a campus and we are constantly telling the students not to roam the streets at night. Most listen, but a few of them don't and often end up as victims of some type of crime. Purse snatchings nd hold-ups are the least troublesome. Rape, killing, maiming, etc are the terrible ones. We also coddle criminals and worry more about their rights than the rights of the victims. Unfortunately, this is now the normal state of affairs, so it behooves us all to be more sensible and cautious when walking the streets at odd hours.
