The Tempe Fantasy of Lights parade is set to proceed through downtown on Saturday, in an event that draws 45,000 spectators each year. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and includes dozens of floats, fire engines and costumed characters. It begins at Third Street and ends at Fifth Street and Maple Avenue.
Afterward, spectators can watch the lighting of the city’s holiday tree in front of MADCAP Theater on Sixth Street and Mill Avenue. Santa will make an appearance, and parents can take photos of their children with him at no cost.
Tempe’s second major holiday event, the Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade, will take place 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at Tempe Town Lake. It features 50 illuminated boats and draws 50,000 people a year. More information about the events is available at www.millavenue.com/events/fantasyoflights.
