Police arrested a 16-year-old student in Tempe for allegedly making threats to shoot people at his school Tuesday.

Tempe police spokesman Michael Pooley said the suspect is a junior at Marcos De Niza High School, located on Guadalupe Road between McClintock Drive and Rural Road.

Pooley said police were contacted late Monday night with information that this student made threats on social media sites, saying he planned a shooting for Tuesday.

Tempe detectives then began an investigation, contacted the student at his home, and arrested him early Tuesday morning.

Police believe the student was acting alone and there are no other threats associated with him, Pooley said.

He was charged with interference with or disruption of an educational institution and was booked into jail.
