Two Tempe Fire Department personnel are battling wildland fires in New Mexico and southern Arizona.

Capt. Todd Foster was deployed May 26 to the H 1-2 wildland fire in Raton, N.M. as a command officer.

Capt. Kevin Bailey was deployed May 27 to fight the Arivica fire in southern Arizona as a crew boss. The crew boss is stationed on the front line with the crew battling the fire while overseeing wildfire operations to ensure that operations comply with the relevant policies and procedures.

A number of Tempe firefighters have been trained in wildland firefighting through the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. Most years, Tempe firefighters are called on at least once to assist in battling wildfires in Arizona and other states.

Costs associated with the deployment of Tempe personnel and equipment to aid in wildland fires are fully reimbursed to the city, according to information from the Tempe Fire Department.

I hope our firefighters boycott cities in California when they have their brush fires.
