Authorities say a suspected car thief is hospitalized after a shootout with Arizona Department of Public Safety officers in San Tan Valley, east of Phoenix.

DPS officials say the incident occurred about 7 a.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a park near Circle Cross Ranch K8 School.

They say a Vehicle Theft Task Force had a known suspect under surveillance.

Investigators say they had information that the suspect was armed and dangerous.

DPS officials say the man refused to pull over for officers and tried to escape.

The situation ended in a shootout by the park.

Neither the suspect's name nor his condition has been released yet.

DPS says no officers were injured.
