3-on-3 basketball tournament

If you and a few friends are looking to shoot some hoops, the Barney Family Sports Complex, 22050 E. Queen Creek Road, will be hosting a 3-on-3 tournament Aug. 20. There will be four age brackets, ranging from first grade to adults. Teams will require a four-person roster and can be men, women or co-ed. All teams will play at least three games in the tournament. Registration fees vary from $50-$75 before Aug. 17 and $75-$100 after that.

Learn aboutdesert wildlife

Discover the secrets of some of the animals that call the desert home. This interactive program at 1 p.m. Saturday at the San Tan Nature Center will cover their communication methods, homes, habitat and other characteristics. There will also be an opportunity to meet some of the animals. The program is free, but there is a $6 park entry fee per vehicle.

Punt, Pass and Kick registration

This national skills competition gives boys and girls ages 8-15 the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in punting, passing and placekicking.

Winners of the local tournament will have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the team championships held at University of Phoenix Stadium during an Arizona Cardinals game. The local event will take place Aug. 29, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Desert Mountain Park, 22201 S. Hawes Road.

Register foryouth soccer leagues

An eight-week soccer league for kids of all ages will begin play the week of Aug. 17 at the Barney Family Sports Complex, 22050 E. Queen Creek Road. The $100 registration fee will include eight games as well as a numbered game jersey. Participants need to attend a skill evaluation session on Saturday to determine the composition of teams.

Arizona ClassicTeam Roping

Arizona Classic Team Roping Summer of 2009 No. 10 Buckle Roping will run every Friday through Sept. 28.

A current United States Team Roping Championships card is needed to enter the competition. Fees are $25 per person, and you may enter eight times.

Entries start at 6 p.m. and roping starts at 7 p.m. at Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre, 20464 E. Riggs Road. For information, contact Dell Trailor at (480) 215-4913.

Youth center summer programs

From video game tournaments and arts and crafts to field trips and an ice rink, Queen Creek's Youth and Teen Center has a number of activities this summer.

Activities such as games and fitness programs are available at various times of the day for children who fill out a registration card.

The center is also setting up various field trips over the summer that cost $12 to $20, depending on the location. Registration opens for each field trip two weeks before the trip.
