The deadline to donate to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Toy Drive is Friday. The sheriff’s office is accepting monetary donations or new, unwrapped toys, clothes and shoes for the toy drive.
Used toys are not accepted.
In 2006, the toy drive raised $59,000, which serviced all of Pinal County and 1,674 children, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Stormee Wallace, who has headed the drive the past two years.
“This year we are hoping to service pretty close to the same amount of kids,” Wallace stated in a news release.
The sheriff’s office Victim Services Division works with families throughout the year and identifies families with children who are victims of crimes. This year, the division has identified five families to benefit from the toy drive.
In addition, the sheriff’s office works closely with county school districts, which help identify candidates to benefit from the drive through their hot-lunch programs.
School resource officers also help identify candidates.
