Higley Unified School District’s assistant superintendent of human resources resigned this week, effective June 30.
Barbara Saxton, who has been with the district for three years, said in her resignation letter that she is leaving to be with her husband, who lives in Michigan.
The human resources department has come under criticism in recent months following the arrest of a former employee on charges of sexually assaulting a student. The employee did not have a fingerprint check as a condition of employment.
A subsequent personnel audit found other employee files lacking fingerprint checks or expired fingerprint cards.
The district has since begun fingerprinting noncertified employees on site as part of the hiring process and has adopted more stringent fingerprint policies.
