A volunteer group is asking for the help of others in the search this weekend for an 85-year-old east Mesa man with dementia who has been missing since Dec. 24.

Hugh Turner, who lives in the 6500 block of East Sugarloaf Street in the Red Mountain Ranch neighborhood off of Power Road, was last seen going for a walk on Christmas Eve.

Arizona Search, Track and Rescue, a nonprofit organization that assists law enforcement in locating missing persons in the state as well as outside of it, will begin organizing at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Turner's home at 6507 E. Sugarloaf St. in Mesa. Anyone interested in participating in the search, which will be in areas throughout the Valley where there have been reported sightings of Turner, is advised to dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and snacks.

Turner, who left his home for a walk about noon on Dec. 24, was wearing a tan hat, a navy blue jacket and tan pants. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. Turner is balding with white hair and has blue eyes. He has a heart condition and requires medication.

If anyone has seen Turner or someone matching his description, they can call Mesa police at (480) 644-2211 or Arizona Search, Track and Rescue at (623) 695-3926, or e-mail highturnersearch@gmail.com.
