Mesa Vice Mayor Scott Somers will host a drowning awareness day on July 27 to kick off Downing Impact Awareness Month in August. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at the Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 S. Crismon Road.
Activities will include free swim time, CPR classes, safety booths and games and giveaways. The fire department will serve free pancakes to attendees. Also, Southwest Ambulance will present Somers with a donation for a program that provides free swimming lessons and free competitive team memberships to Mesa residents in need.
