Police say a 45-year-old Gilbert man has admitted to a five-month spree of exposing himself, performing various sex acts and peeping on senior women at nine Mesa mobile home parks.
William Allen Holt Jr. was arrested Monday after threatening to shoot himself and holding authorities at bay for about three hours at his home in the 2700 block of South Palm Court.
Mesa police said that from March through July, Holt preyed on women ages 53 to 87, often at clubhouses and pools.
Holt told investigators he has a long history of struggling with sexual urges to expose himself and watch women taking showers, according to a Maricopa County court document.
Holt has been arrested on suspicion of one count of felony sexual abuse and several misdemeanors; four counts of telephone harassment; one count of assault; one count of criminal trespass; and seven counts of public sexual indecency. He was being held in a Maricopa County jail on $180,000 bail.
The break in the case came this month when residents at one of the mobile home parks gave authorities a photograph of a Chrysler PT Cruiser that was registered to Holt.
On Monday, detectives went to Holt’s home and questioned him. He admitted to police that he went to mobile home parks and exposed himself, masturbated and entered women’s showers, a court document said.
The spree began in early March when a 70-year-old women reported that a man masturbated in front of her at the community pool at 3104 E. Broadway Road, according to Maricopa County court records.
The crimes escalated July 22, when Holt entered the women’s showers at 3020 E. Main St. and grabbed an 87-year-old woman after she’d finished her shower, police said.
On Monday, after admitting to the crimes, detectives attempted to arrest Holt but he reached for a handgun and pointed it at himself, Mesa police spokesman Sgt. Chuck Trapani said.
Police negotiators spoke to Holt but he refused to come out, Trapani said. Officers then used a chemical agent to drive him out of the home.
