With summer winding down, the Mesa Parks and Recreation Department is preparing to open up the fall youth sports season with a special, free celebration in September.
The celebration, which is scheduled for Sept. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fitch Park, will feature games, door prizes, vendors, food, a screening of “The Sandlot” and registration opportunities for the city’s fall youth programs. Kids between the ages of 6 and 15 can try their luck at the local competition of the NFL’s Punt, Pass & Kick contest.
The fall sports season in Mesa will include leagues or clinics for lacrosse, volleyball, touch rugby, flag football and soccer, and each sport is divided into several age groupings.
Fitch Park is located at 651 N. Center Street in Mesa, and interested families can visit mesaaz.gov/youthsports or call (480) 644-3040 for more information about the celebration event and athletic opportunities.
