A bridge collapse has killed one person at a Loop 202 construction site in Mesa.
According to Forrest Smith with the Mesa Fire Department, two people were initially trapped by the bridge at the construction site near Hawes Road and the Loop 202.

Smith said officials were able to manually extricated one person, but another worker who is still under the rubble has been pronounced dead.
Mesa police Wednesday afternoon identified the man who died as 43-year-old Steven Ariston of Peoria.
The worker extricated from the scene was flown to an area hospital with a serious head injury. According to a release distributed by Mesa police spokesman Steve Berry, the hospitalized man is Alejandro Meraz, 20, of Peoria. "His injuries are serious, but he in stable condition," Berry said.
The incident happened off the freeway, so traffic in the area was not affacted
