A woman was taken to the hospital Monday night after suffering burns to her face during a Mesa house fire.
Mesa Fire Department Spokesman Forrest Smith said the fire started around 7:45 p.m. at a home near University and Stapley drives.
Smith said firefighters found an elderly woman unconscious and breathing inside the entrance of the home. She was treated by medics and transported to Maricopa County Medical Center to be treated for burn injuries.
It took firefighters about 35 minutes to get the fire under control. Smith said crews were able to keep the fire from spreading from trees to other homes in the area
There is no word yet on how the fire started.
