A 45-year-old woman suffered a broken leg and broken wrist after she crashed a motorcycle through a window of a west Mesa building when her husband was teaching her how to operate it in a parking lot on Monday.

The woman, who lost control of the motorcycle about 6:40 p.m., crashed through the window of a building space in the Westwood Plaza at 1260 W. University Drive after she knocked over a planter, rode over the curb and through the plate glass window of the building, according to Mesa police.

The woman was treated at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Poor lady, from the sound of the accident it sounds like her injuries could have been a whole lot worse. Hope she is up and around soon. Shiny side up! [smile]

Sorry to hear this. Better to learn from professionals, not family. Heal well, fast!

I see some women who get into motorcycle riding just because their boyfriend is into it, or to have access to more potential men to choose from.

I'm familiar with one woman who learned because her husband pressured her. She rode head-on into oncoming traffic during a cross-country trip. (It was only then that her husband realized he was partly responsible for her death, pressuring her into something she wasn't comfortable with.).

When I took the TEAM training 10 years ago, a woman in my class was on her *third* class. She passed, but just barely. She would get nervous and dump the clutch for no reason, taking her hands off the handlebars as the motorcycle lurched forward, riding it hands-free until it fell over 3-6 feet later.

It was remarkable that she passed. During the whole class, it looked like she wouldn't. She just managed to avoid doing something stupid during the final test portion.

Her story was similar. There was some guy who lived/breathed motorcycles and she wanted to be part of his scene.

I'm so sorry to hear of her wreck. It can be devastating, but I hope if this is something that she really wants to do, that she will get back on it, after healing. I would suggest paying the money, and taking the classes from professionals! That is the only way to learn how to ride a bigger bike. Over 30? years ago, I used to ride a 90 yamaha, now I ride a Harley. BIG DIFFERENCE! I would never have tried the bigger bike on the highway without learning from the professionals. They are patient, and understanding, and encouraging.
