A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery after police say he hit a Target cashier in the face and tried to steal $362 from her register on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Cadavas was stopped by loss-prevention officers inside the store at 1135 S. Gilbert Road about 2:30 p.m., moments after police say he walked behind the cashier while she was helping a customer and hit her, first with his forearm, then a notebook, then tried to grab the cash tray out of her register.

The robber took at least $362 from the register before security blocked the door with a shopping cart and recovered the money from Cadavas, police said. He was allowed to leave and was contacted by police on the northeast corner of Gilbert Road and Southern Avenue, where a police report says he made initial statements that he took money and assaulted a woman in the store. Cadavas had $393 in his possession at the time of his arrest.

The cashier was treated at the store by Mesa fire personnel and later taken to a nearby hospital by her father, where she was treated for a nosebleed.

Im a Target employee.. if that happen in my store.. He would have not been allowed to leave.. but thats what you get for a trashy area of Mesa. I think that the AP should have been question for that action.

Because he already struck the cashier he would probably fight and then Target would run the risk of being sued by the perp. For this you can thank scum sucking lawyers...

Hope she will be ok. One doesn't expect to show up to work only to be abused by someone. Who knows her nose may have been broken. It is an unfortunate event and working in retail, if one gets hit by someone, that person cannot hit back and the same if one sees someone abusing a child, they have to notify their supervisors. NO ONE DESERVES TO BE ASSAULTED.

I don't know the legal ramifications if Target had kept him from leaving - but there are some. I expect the employees were following established protocol.

As for the "maybe if more law-abiding citizens packed heat," comment. Gee, that would be great - "Gunfight at the local Target, 12 dead". Catchy headline. Didn't you read about the accidental shooting at the LA high school this week? Just what we need. More guns in the hands of idiots. While I support the right to own guns - I also support common sense.

As for the "left-wing nut" comment. You are a troll. Politics has nothing to do with this. The thief is probably a tweaker. BTW, how many hours have you spent supporting the election of a candidate(s) of your choice? How much money have you donated to said candidate(s)? If the answer is zero for these questions - YOU are part of the problem.

And, lastly. I know many lawyers. Many are nice people - many are not. BUT, lawyers don't make any money without CLIENTS. So WE are the problem. We want to win the jackpot. Get rear-ended, call a lawyer. Have a less than perfect baby, call a lawyer. Get fired (because you're incompetent), call a lawyer.

Dear beadlesaz: Yes common sense always prevails, that's why I pack heat wherever I go. My community of family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and fellow citizens that I was blessed with in my earlier years were all aware of the dangers of weapons and were well educated in the use thereof. Your knowledge of guns is driven by fear, anxiety, and a lack of properly handling such weapons....It is liberals like you that give law-abiding, GOD-fearing, family-loving citizens a bad name. Remember, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away. NOTE: I pack my gun in the open to give the criminal a reason to pause and think twice.

I do not get the gun laws.. I saw a guy at a major retail store with a gun in his back pocket, no holster nothing. I think he is an idiot for doing that, anyone crazy enough could have just grabbed the gun out of his pocket and just start shooting people. Whatever happen to personal accountability and I think lack of that contributes to the death of many people.
