The Mesa Unified School District Governing Board on Tuesday approved policy changes that would expand its gang policy to hold sway outside of school hallways, including around bus stops and while traveling to or from school.

The East Valley Gang Taskforce agreed with the changes that will help schools address gang-related Internet harassment, said David Shuff, assistant superintendent of student services. District officials said they wanted to stem a recent rise in school gang activity.
