A man who has suffered life-threatening injuries after his van struck a stopped school bus Wednesday remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Mesa police spokesman Steven Berry says the 50-year-old man was driving a van Wednesday morning and failed to break behind the bus on Broadway Road in Mesa.

Berry said on Thursday that there had not been any change in the man’s condition.

A 17-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital as a precaution after hitting her head on the bus.

Berry says only two children were on the bus, which was picking up students at the time of the crash.

Police are investigating the cause but believe impairment from drugs or alcohol was a factor.

I think the reporter means "brake" behind the bus and not "break." I think some of the things published today could use an editor! Sorry for those injured...
