What is a TMJ treatment?

It stands for temporomandibular joint dysfunction and is when a person has a problem with the joint or muscles in the jaw. Patients usually feel pain in their face jaw or neck, experience stiff jaw muscles, popping or locking of the jaw, or a shift in how their teeth align together.

Is this treatment included in regular check-ups?

No. You can mention to the doctor where you are feeling the pain and then we will take the necessary steps to examine and diagnosis what is wrong. Dr. Kalika will use our 3-dimensional imaging system to take pictures and then navigate through the image to see what is wrong. The system allows for a very precise reading and will give quick results, which will allow for us to relieve any patient who is in pain.

How much will this cost?

Every patient receives a free consultation and then from there it just depends what the problem is. Some jaw pain is simply treated by eating softer foods or taking pain medicines - other times we may provide a splint. A common problem is people who are grinding or clenching their teeth and that is problem easily fixed. It’s not often that surgery is needed for jaw pain.

Is jaw pain serious or detrimental if it’s not taken care of?

Jaw pain is not life threatening, but is something that can be irritable and can be difficult to manage if not immediately addressed. Pain in the jaw is very common and usually occurs in people ages 20 and over. The cause of a patients jaw pain varies so having Dr. Kalika with our high-quality technology is the best option to help diagnose the problem.
