The Mesa Fire Department recognized outstanding volunteers during an appreciation dinner Friday.
Volunteers contributed 31,821 hours in 2011, which resulted in a dollar value of $693,379 in service. Volunteers for the fire department provide a wide range of services to the community, from social service referrals, motorist assistance, elder care referrals and homeless-shelter needs to fire victim assistance and education to the community.
