A 2-year-old is in stable condition following a near drowning in Mesa Monday.

Mesa Fire and Medical crews responded to a family's pool around 1:30 p.m.

The child was reportedly swimming with her siblings before they got out of the pool to have lunch.

The mother noticed that the child was not with the others and had gone back to the fenced pool alone.

The mother found the child and pulled her from the pool. She was coughing and breathing at the time of her rescue, according to Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

The toddler was taken to the hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery.

Though this child is expected to be OK, non-fatal water incidents can have life-changing impacts on victims.

Forrest Smith with Mesa Fire and Medical says near drownings can result in brain injuries, disabilities and more.
