Funeral and military services for a 19-year-old Mesa soldier killed in Iraq will be this morning.
The public is welcome to attend the services for Army Pvt. Kelly David Youngblood, who was killed by a sniper as he exited a tank Feb. 18, only 16 days after arriving in Iraq.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. at Mesa’s St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 2540 W. Baseline Road. A full military service will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St.
Gov. Janet Napolitano said the state will fly its flags at halfstaff today in honor of Younglood.
He will be cremated at the cemetery before interment at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Youngblood lived in Mesa for 11 years and attended Tempe’s McClintock High School.
