Mesa parks and recreation director Rhett Evans is leaving to join the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America as its chief operating officer.
The organization specializes in golf course management. Evans was tapped by organization chief executive Mark Woodward, who has also previously served in Mesa's parks department.
Evans starts his new job in July. He worked for Mesa for eight years.
A city spokesman said Mesa officials haven't decided on a replacement yet and will be exploring options over the next 30 days.
