A Mesa school is one of the nation's best.

The U.S. Department of Education has named Sandra Day O'Connor Elementary School in Mesa one of 314 Blue Ribbon Schools for 2010.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students.

The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices.

The school will be recognized Tuesday afternoon by the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools program director Aba Kumi.

Why not say "honored" instead of "cited"? Using the word "cited" makes one believe that a Mesa school got into to some type of trouble or was served a citation for a violation....poor choice of verbs.
