A familiar face and name from the ranks of Mesa Police Department's volunteers has died.
Danny Williams, who performed a number of duties for the police department's volunteers and most recently served as president of the department's Citizens Academy Alumni Association, died Friday after battling cancer, said Linda Bailey, volunteer coordinator for the Mesa Police Department.
Williams' age was not available.
"He's been absolutely amazing," Bailey said. "I'm not sure who will take over for him as president of the citizen's academy alumni association, but they'll have some big shoes to fill when they do."
At Williams' request, no funeral services will be scheduled, Bailey said.
