Mesa’s libraries now have Nook e-readers available for checkout at the city’s four branch locations. Of the 38 Nooks, about half will have pre-loaded popular titles. Some e-readers will be empty so patrons can download the e-books of their choice, and several will have popular titles pre-loaded but can only be checked out for one week.

Most of the Nooks can be checked out for three weeks, and the library will charge a $1 per day late fee. Mesa is testing the Nooks for one year to determine if they will become a permanent offering.

Mesa purchased the Nooks with a $8,050 grant from the Library Services and Technology Act. E-books are downloadable through the Greater Phoenix Digital Library. For more information, visit http://evtnow.com/2fx.
