The deadline to apply for the vacant District 5 Mesa City Council seat is 5 p.m. today.
The seat was vacated by Rex Griswold, who resigned in late September to run for Mayor. Applicants must have lived in District 5 for at least two years. The resident who is approved by City Council to fill the position will serve until a new City Council member is elected and sworn into office.
Meanwhile, the seat is open for candidates who want to run for the March election. The victor would serve out the rest of Griswold’s term, which ends in 2010.
The mayor and council will narrow the list of applicants to no more than five. Finalists will be interviewed on Oct. 18, and the final decision will be made Oct. 25.
