What is preventative dentistry?
Preventive dentistry is not treating things acutely. It’s encouraging the patients to come in every six months to prevent a lot of restorative dentistry. It’s allows for use to see if there are any decay or problems and catch them early – that makes it so out of pocket expenses aren’t too large.
Why are regular check-ups important?
Similar to what I just said in that it helps catch those problems early if a patient has any. We clean the teeth, floss them, check to make sure the gums are healthy, and remove the plaque from the teeth. We want our patients to have the best oral health. We also encourage them to receive a comprehensive exam and stay on top of x-rays.
What is a comprehensive exam?
It’s where we look at other parts of the mouth rather than just the regular check up when a patient comes in. It’s just another way we can care for our patients – so like checking on the gums and tissues with better technology so we can see more. This is usually done with our 3D imaging system.
What is some of the dental equipment that helps with preventive dentistry?
We have a 3D imaging system that allows for us to look at a patient’s mouth from different angles. The doctor can zoom in and out of the tooth and can detect more quickly and precisely what the problem is. This saves our patients money and time. We’re just able to detect the problems earlier. Another one would be our Velscope, which helps us see if there are any oral abnormalities – it checks for oral cancer. A patient can receive an oral examination once a year for only $10.
Are there classes that help educate patients on healthy dental hygiene?
We go out to different communities and educate people that way. We also have handouts and every time a patient comes in they are educated about it.
