East Valley drivers continued to see a drop in pump prices in the last week while the nation's average increased.
Drivers in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Ahwatukee, Apache Junction, Queen Creek paid an average $3.409 at the pump Thursday, 2.8 cents lower than a week ago, AAA Arizona reports.
This week, the statewide average dropped 2.3 cents to $3.429 per gallon, while national prices rose 2.4 cents to $3.549 per gallon.
“The recent broader increase in retail gas prices has occurred because of weather issues and increased tension in the Middle East,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “As a result, there may be an uptick in prices at the pump in Arizona but we’re not projecting a major shift in either direction for pump prices in the short term, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.197 and $3.681 per gallon, respectively. South Carolina and Illinois hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $3.242 and $3.994 per gallon, respectively.
