A grand jury returned a 46-count indictment Friday against two Mesa men who are in jail in connection with a yearlong shooting spree.
Dale S. Hausner, 33, and Samuel J. Dieteman, 30, are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, 14 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 14 counts of aggravated assault and 16 counts of drive-by shooting.
A SWAT team arrested the pair Aug. 4 at the Mesa apartment they shared. Police believe they could be responsible for as many as 37 shootings since May 17, 2005, seven of them homicides.
The indictment represents only 16 shootings, and Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill says investigations of the uncharged incidents continue.
The indictment lists Robin Blasnek, 22, of Mesa and Claudia Gutierrez-Cruz, 20, of Phoenix as homicide victims. Blasnek was gunned down July 30 at Grandview Drive and Gilbert Road as she walked to a friend's house. Gutierrez-Cruz was shot as she got off a bus near Scottsdale and Thomas roads in Scottsdale.
Dieteman's and Hausner's arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 21.
