A building full of students was evacuated for an hour at Mesa Community College after a suspicious package was discovered in a restroom on Wednesday.
Someone discovered a box in the restroom in the technology building on the school’s 1833 W. Southern Ave. campus about 11:55 a.m., prompting authorities to investigate the box, which had a box of electronic wiring inside of it, according to Sonia Filan, a Mesa Community College spokeswoman.
Mesa police responded to the scene and determined that the box was not a threat, and the students and staff were allowed to go back inside the building at 12:55 p.m., Filan said.
“We evacuated the students as a precaution,” Filan said. “It just looked like a student from an electronics class left the box inside the restroom, but we always take precaution because you just never know.”
