The Mountain View High School Toro Band will travel to Hawaii Dec. 5-9 to represent Arizona at the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. The Mesa students will perform at the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor and in the commemorative parade. Just a few weeks later, the band will represent Arizona again in the Fiesta Bowl Parade and national band competition.

This year, Mountain View welcomed freshmen for the first time. The band has grown in size from 130 members to 190 members. Band director Scott Burgener said that makes the band the second largest in the state.

To help raise funds for the trips, a car wash will be held 7 a.m. Aug. 27 at the AM/PM on Lindsay Road and University Drive. For more information about the group and its fundraising efforts for travel, contact Burgener at smburgen@mpsaz.org or (480) 472-7158.
