Mesa installed flashing yellow left turn arrow signals that started Wednesday for north and southbound traffic at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Juanita Avenue.

According to a release, this is the fourth location in the city to receive the flashing signals.

“When the yellow arrow is flashing, that means left turns are permitted, but motorists must first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before proceeding through the intersection,” the release states.

Flashing yellow left turn arrow signals are currently operating at Gilbert Road and Inverness Avenue, Ellsworth Road and US 60, and Signal Butte Road and US 60.

The city is considering additional locations, including the intersections of Baseline and Lindsay roads, Broadway Road and Stapley Drive; and Broadway and Higley roads.

What a terrible idea. This will confuse the already horrible drivers that plague this State.

Love 'em. I've driven through the signals at both Ellsworth and Signal Butte, and they help clear traffic faster than waiting for a green arrow.

What's the difference between the flashing yellow arrow and a solid green? What's the point to confusing people with something they've never seen?

Exactly, Ram. Just put up a solid green light, avoid all the extra expense and confusion. Cash strapped Mesa finds another way to waste tax revenue.

What bugs me is why in He** do they turn the left turn signals off except during rush hour?
They already went to the expense of installing the turn signal with the sensors etc. etc. and then they turn the darn things OFF.
How much electricity are they saving turning off left turn signals?
During snowbird season, especially, you need left turn signals ALL DAY LONG.
There is so much traffic on University and Recker and Brown and Main ( and many many other streets ) that I have sat for 3 lights trying to make a left turn because you will NOT get a break in traffic. It is suicidal trying to make a left turn with the turn signals off.
It really really puzzles me why in the heck they turn them off and only use them during " rush hour " when rush hour in the winter is all day long.

Stupid. This is the idiots cure to the stupid idea of turn only arrows. Turn only arrows cause traffic to back up and increase risk of collision. Just take out the stupid turn only arrows. Nothing wrong with left turn arrows, just the ones that stop you from being able to turn except when they are green. And while you are at it, Mesa, stop putting in no right turn on red light signs at intersections. How about taking away the driving priviledges of the idiots that can't turn right without causing an accident? Oh, no, that would make sense.
