A 22-year-old Mesa man is facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly stabbed his parents multiple times over the weekend.
Sgt. Tony Landato of the Mesa Police Department said a 48-year-old mother called 911 Sunday morning to report that she had been stabbed by her son, Zachary Schneider. She told police Schneider suffered from a "mental illness."
The mother also said while she was on the phone her son was attempting to stab her 54-year-old husband.
Police responded to a Mesa neighborhood near east Broadway and 24th Street to find two adults "bleeding profusely" with several stab wounds.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to survive.
The son was taken into police custody and booked on two counts of aggravated assault, which are class 3 felonies.
