Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a man on animal cruelty charges after his pit bull was found dead at his home.
In a press release, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the 40-year-old Mesa man was arrested Wednesday after his 1 1/2-year-old male pit bull was found dead in the back yard of his home near Broadway and Crismon roads.
MCSO said the dog was hooked up to a chain and did not have access to shade or water. The man reportedly told authorities that his dog was poisoned by a neighbor.
A veterinarian determined the dog died from extreme heat exhaustion. Temperatures Wednesday were over the 100-degree mark.
