A former elementary school teacher in Mesa has pleaded guilty to four counts of attempted child molestation as part of a plea deal.
Michael LaMonica was a music teacher at Brinton Elementary School before he was arrested in March on molestation allegations.
Police say a 7-year-old girl, now 12, told them that LaMonica took off her clothes and molested her after asking her to help him clean the band room.
LaMonica will be sentenced on July 29.
LaMonica was hired by the Mesa School Board in August 1992 and taught at Madison Elementary, Salk Elementary and Edison Elementary before teaching at Brinton Elementary for the 2001-2002 school year.
Those hired in the school district must pass a background check.
