Mesa has announced the schedule for its Veterans Day events on Wednesday, which includes a parade themed to honor Vietnam veterans.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Center Street at Third Place, and will travel south to First Avenue. The parade is sponsored by the Mesa Veterans Parade Association and includes more than 90 entries.
The Veteran Invasion begins at 1 p.m. in the Theatre District at Mesa Riverview as a daylong festival and concert in celebration of Veterans Day. Activities include a GI obstacle course, Patriot Guard ride, displays from nonprofit organizations and vendors, and live music at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill.
A Veterans Day commemoration is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St. The "Wall of Peace" will be dedicated in a ceremony that includes the Honor Guard and musical accompaniment.
Also, Troop 773 of the Boy Scouts of America will set up flags on the graves of veterans buried at the Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center St. The flags will be placed near sunrise and removed near sunset. To order a flag or for more information, call (480) 390-4536. A $40 donation is suggested.
