When the staff at Mesa’s Broadway Palm Dinner Theater learned that public school budget cuts are squeezing local creative and performing arts programs, they sprung into action.
Enter the Festival for Creative Arts, a grassroots fete pulled together by dozens of Mesa businesses and groups to raise money for the Mesa Public Schools Creative and Performing Arts Fund.
At the festival, you’ll find fire eaters, magicians, jugglers, fortune tellers, stilt walkers, contortionists, balloon twisters and a unicycle rider twirling plates.
Add to that live performances by the cast of “Seussical The Broadway Musical,” The Nostaligics Harmonica Trio, Perpetual Motion Dance Studio, Liberty Arts Academy, National Comedy Theater, Christian Youth Theater and the Red Mountain High School Show Choir.
There are also carnival games, a dunk tank, a bounce house, pie-eating contests, food vendors, and arts and crafts booths.
It’s a veritable smorgasbord of things to see and do, including drawings for Broadway Palm show tickets every half-hour and a Chinese auction. (Prizes include a $2,500 scholarship to Liberty Arts Academy, season tickets for the Broadway Palm, a family portrait session from Steve Nissle Photography Studio, a plane ride over Mesa, a condo for one week in Park City, Utah, and a guitar from Milano’s Music Center.)
Admission is free, but all the money you spend goes directly to creative and performing arts programs.
