District 3 Councilmember Dennis Kavanaugh wrapped up his annual toy donation drive for Cardon Children’s Medical Center by delivering more than 1,000 toys on Dec. 11.
With the assistance of the Mesa Police, Fire and Medical departments, Kavanaugh delivered the gifts to Cardon, which is located in Mesa, using a vintage 1941 fire truck.
During the drive that began on Nov. 7 and ended on Dec. 9, students from the East Valley Institute of Technology raised $1,200 and purchased more than 200 toys at Mesa Riverview’s Wal-Mart.
“The support we have received from the community for this toy drive is always so amazing, and this year they really went above and beyond,” Kavanaugh said in a press release. “Everyone understands how difficult it is for a child to spend the holidays in the hospital, and they know what a huge difference these toys can make to those children. To collect 1,000 toys to give to these kids, it really shows what incredible neighbors Mesa has.”
