Surgeons at Mesa’s Banner Desert Medical Center and Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa will train Wednesday for new minimally invasive surgical procedures in a mobile operating room on a truck.

Covidien is bringing the state-of-the-art operating room on an 85-foot semi, where surgeons will sharpen their skills for single incision laparocopic surgery (SILS). These “belly button” procedures enable safer surgeries and faster recoveries. It could be used for patients having gall bladder removal, hysterectomy, gastric bypass, kidney removal or plastic surgery.
