In one case, a Mesa mother is accused of looking the other way while her boyfriend molested her teenage daughter.
In the other case, a 72-yearold man took his daughter as a "spiritual wife" and is accused of molested her for 10 years with the approval of the girl’s mother.
Two of the defendants who pleaded innocent to sex charges in the unrelated cases are scheduled to change their pleas in Maricopa County Superior Court this week, court calendars show.
Stanley Rimer, whose 22-year-old daughter escaped and went to authorities in December 2003, is scheduled to change his plea Wednesday.
He and his wife, Janice Rimer, 52, were indicted in March on child molestation charges. Authorities believe the Rimers, formerly of Phoenix, practiced polygamy, and that Stanley Rimer consummated the "marriage" with the then 10-year-old girl after a ceremony in a Phoenix apartment on April 18, 1994.
"I just remember that he said I was special," the woman told detectives in an interview. "The Lord said to him, we give unto you a virgin. She is to be your third wife."
The 46-year- old Mesa mother is scheduled to enter a change of plea on Tuesday.
According to court documents, the mother told detectives with the Mesa Police Department she knew her boyfriend was going to have sex with her daughter and did nothing to stop it.
The East Valley Tribune is withholding her name to protect the identity of her teenage daughter.
The boyfriend is awaiting trial as is Janice Rimer.
