The driver of a truck that crashed Monday at Loop 202 and Elliot Road died from a medical condition and not from injuries, police said.

The official cause of death for Hector Ramon Martinez, 52, of Mesa, was hypertensive heart disease, according to the Office of the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.

Officer Robert Bailey, state Department of Public Safety spokesman, said Martinez was driving northbound on Loop 202 at 11:04 a.m. in a tan 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when the vehicle veered left into the median.

The truck struck several crash barrels and came to a stop against the cable barrier.

Motorists stopped to help.

Bailey said the autopsy found he suffered no injuries from the crash.

Northbound traffic was closed off for two hours and southbound traffic was restricted.
