Authorities in northern Arizona say a Mesa man has died after falling about 200 feet off a cliff near Payson.

Coconino County Sheriff's officials say 36-year-old Casey Frazier was declared dead at the scene of Saturday night's fall off the Mogollon Rim about two miles west of Woods Canyon Lake.

They say it's still unclear why Frazier was in the Payson area and how long he was there before the fall.

An investigation into the death is being handled by the Gila County Sheriff's Office with assistance from Coconino County.

Sheriff's officials say personnel from the Forest Lakes and Heber-Overgaard Fire departments moved Frazier's body approximately halfway up the incline and the Tonto Rim Rope Team assisted in extricating it to the top.
