Mesa is seeking volunteers on May 14 to help build a new playground in an 11-acre area of open space that has few amenities. The city decided to build a playground aimed at pre-school and grade-school children after holding community meetings about Golden Hills Park, 7256 E. Pueblo Ave. The play area will include a 75-foot long shade structure, making Golden Hills the only shaded play area in Mesa. The playground’s equipment was funded through donations from businesses and nonprofits. Volunteers are asked to start work at 6 a.m. May 14. I live just North of this "park" and still question the (vote?) that okayed the place. Nobody we questioned was in favor of it, particularly the people living across the street from it. Jefferson Park is a few blocks away on Broadway and my son and I were users at that park when he was growing up. Mesa could make better use of their money other than building more parks that local neighbors don't want. How about repairing local street lights that burn 24 hours a day for months on end? Cases in point are located right down 72nd street from the location of this new "park".
