Two men police say committed a carjacking by knifepoint in the parking lot of a Bashas’ grocery store in east Mesa were arrested without incident on Wednesday.
Raymond Bautista, 25, and Jarrelle Mayfeld were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and theft of means of transportation after another vehicle the men were traveling in was discovered pulling into Mountain Vista Hospital at 1301 S. Crismon Road, minutes after the carjacking.
The victim told police that two men approached him in the parking lot of the store on the corner of Crismon and Baseline roads and one of them drove off with his car. He also provided officers with the license plate number and description.
After Mayfield and Bautista were apprehended, officers discovered some of the victim’s property in the car they were using then — a different vehicle from the victim’s car. That vehicle was later recovered abandoned south of U.S. 60 near Crismon Road.
