Jan Brewer pauses during a news conference as she reacts after the United States Supreme Court decision regarding Arizona's controversial immigration law, SB1070, after the ruling comes down in Phoenix. It's almost a case of starting over for Gov. Jan Brewer as she weighs whether to ask legislators to provide government-paid health coverage to hundreds of thousands of additional low-income Arizonans. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin, File)

Thank you skayell for bringing in the Jesus Christ and Christian argument. You may also note that Jesus Christ had the power of miracle to heal and the State of Arizona and the Federal Government does not. You will also note that whenever you hear Federal Government funding, you should hear funding partially by the Chinese with interest and principle due by your children and grandchildren. This is what people don't want to understand- nothing is free and someone has to pay for it. You may go back and re read the above- 1 in 5 Arizonans on AHCCCS? Really, 20% of our population and more in line can no longer care for themselves?

@ retired-doc
Try looking at the statistics in a meaninful way:
California has 3.005 welfare cases per 100 people
Arizona has 1.875 per 100
Number of welfare recipients does not necessarily equate to number of people who need Medicaid. I don't know about Arizona, but many states have a deductible for some recipient categories. That was the case for the short time I was on Medicaid. Ironically, my monthly deductible was higher than my monthly income minus rent and utilities by approximately 25%.
I am happy to see you are retired. America and even Arizona doesn't need doctors who display as little compassion as you do. I would wager you claim to be a Christian as well. Christ Jesus did not ask to see the insurance card of the lame, the lepers or the blind and the Bible doesn't mention him collecting copays.

Say no to California style medicaid expansion. Docs will move from CA to AZ and it will make it easier to recruit from out of state if AZ offers a conservative alternative to California. Poorly compensated medicaid patients mean docs have to do more procedures to better insured patients, raising the cost of healthcare.
California has 12% of US population and 33% of welfare cases. Let's shoot for 40%.
