The Apache Junction Police Department is allowing residents to dispose of their expired or unused prescription drugs at police headquarters to prevent them from becoming a danger to children or teens.

Residents who would like to dispose of prescription drugs can bring them between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The headquarters is at 1001 N. Idaho Ave.

Residents can drop off old prescription drugs to the clerk at the main entrance. The medicine will be sent to the evidence division, which the Pinal County Superior Court has ordered to destroy the drugs.

Since the program started in July, police have destroyed 18,000 pills, Capt. Tom Kelly said.
