Worried your blood pressure might be high? If you live in Tempe, the fire department offers free blood pressure checks from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, and without an appointment.
It's recommended that everybody have blood pressure checked twice a year because high blood pressure often has no symptoms. It can lead to heart attack, heart failure, strokes and kidney disease. Factors that contribute to high blood pressure include being overweight, smoking, drinking alcohol, not exercising, consuming too much salt, stress and other medical conditions.
Residents can go to the city's six fire stations for a check. At the station, ring the doorbell by the main entrance. There will be times when firefighters are away from the station while responding to an emergency. If that happens, check back later.
The stations are:

• Station 3, 5440 S. McClintock Dr.
• Station 4, 300 E. Elliot Road
• Station 5, 723 E. Curry Road
• Station 6, 655 S. Ash Ave.
