Dr. Gordon Klatt, an oncology surgeon, decided 26 years ago he needed to do something personal to help raise cancer awareness and raise funds to assist cancer patients. So Klatt walked and ran around a track for 24 hours with the motto that, since cancer never sleeps, he would not either.
That day in Washington started Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society which now includes more than 5,000 events worldwide. Klatt is scheduled to participate in the kick-off of Arizona’s largest Relay for Life fundraiser 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in Mesa at Skyline High School, 845 S Crismon Road.
